For Meghan Trainor it may be “All about that Bass,” but for me and my sweet tooth, it’s all about that cake! One of the few traditions that are still embraced at virtually every wedding reception is the Cake Cutting. It is a very sweet moment when the bride and groom exchange a small bite of cake with one another and end with a kiss. This tradition still puts a smile on my face at every wedding I attend and I am so happy that the younger generation still embraces it.
The cake design and flavor profile is a great way to express yourself and tie into your wedding theme. Whether it’s “blush and bashful” or “vintage chic,” the possibilities are endless when you work with your bakery. The cake is also a beautiful show piece at many weddings when it is set up in the center of the dance floor. I often see guests taking photos of the cake during the cocktail hour and discussing the design with friends and family. And yes, the top of the cake also says a lot about the bride and groom…whether it be fresh flowers or clay figurines of the bride and groom sitting on top, it is always a fun conversation piece for your guests.
On Sunday we had the opportunity to view many gorgeous designs from Basia and her team at Oak Mill Bakery who provide the cakes for the historic Hotel Baker in St. Charles. Their cakes are beautiful on the outside and also taste delicious. So embrace this time honored Cake Cutting tradition at your wedding and enjoy tasting and creating the perfect cake.
