One of the best parts of my job as Sales Manager of Something 2 Dance 2, is getting to know the passions of our brides and grooms. As I was communicating via e-mail with our former bride Jessica, I noticed in her signature line a link to stuckonsweet.com, so of course I clicked on it, since I too, am an obsessed foodie, and wow was I in heaven! Not only is her tagline adorable: “Everyday Recipes that will satisfy your cravings,” but her site is packed with amazing recipes, photos and fun facts about each recipe. So I thought it would be fun to interview her and share her love for food with all of you!
Tell me about your Blog stuckonsweet.com
I started Stuck on Sweet in February of 2013 to start sharing my passion for baking and cooking. Everything I share is what my husband and I eat. I typically change a recipe or adapt it to my tasting. Many of my recipes are my own creations – this is a personal goal for me. I would like to eventually develop all my own recipes. I truly share what I like to eat, not what I think is popular to share. I grew up in Iowa and married an Italian man from Chicago so between the two of us, we love to eat and enjoy ALL food.
How did you get started baking, cooking and blogging?
As a teenager I started watching the Food Network which inspired me to get in the kitchen. I am also the youngest of 3 – my brother and sister are 5 and 6 years older than me so when they were in college, I was the only one at home. My parents both owned their own businesses and were super busy so I often cooked for parents and myself at night – I really enjoyed it and love that my parent’s taught me at an early age to not only be independent but learn how to depend on myself. I became very domestic in many ways, one of those ways was cooking and baking and I just fell in love with it.
Where do you find inspiration for your recipes?
Everywhere – TV, magazines, restaurants, other bloggers, Pinterest (of course!) My husband often asks me to make things that he craves or wants to try. I enjoy cooking and baking for others more than for myself. Recently he asked me to make rice pudding – I’m looking forward to the challenge!
Was food an important part of your Wedding? If so, how?
Yes! Half of our guests were from Iowa and half of them were Italians from Chicago so between the two of us, we had a lot of people that love food. It was very important to us that our guests were provided a variety of delicious food. It was the least we could do for all of their love and support they offered us over the years.
What are some food trends that you are seeing for weddings?
This is an interesting question because I think it depends on where the wedding is – for example, people don’t tend to do a lot of appetizers in Iowa but in Chicago, there are tons of appetizers. I have noticed that some choose to serve cupcakes or have a dessert table instead of cake which I think is a cute idea. It offers guests a variety of options and different flavors. I served a traditional wedding cake at my wedding because I am absolutely obsessed with the almond cake that we chose. I also think people are trending to have a “less formal” meal. For example, serving fried chicken or pasta or having a taco bar, etc. – I absolutely love this idea and think it’s super fun and creative.
Being a newlywed, what is your favorite thing to cook or bake for Vin?
Comfort food. He loves a hearty delicious meal such as lasagna, sloppy joe’s, pot roast, pasta, etc. I mix it up with many healthy meals in between so we eat a well-balanced diet. Vin loves oatmeal raisin cookies or anything with cinnamon so right now he is loving all the fall baking I am doing.
I just made your Pumpkin Muffin Recipe for Jay this week and he loved them!
If you could eat only 1 thing the rest of your life what would it be? Pasta with vodka sauce and Parmesan cheese for a savory meal and banana cream pie for dessert!
