Our Chicago chapter of the Association of Bridal Consultants (ABC), took a field trip on Tuesday afternoon to visit the Chicago History Museum’s amazing wedding gown exhibit “I Do!” Chicago Ties the Knot. I would highly recommend this exhibit for any bride, mother of the bride, or bridesmaid as it traces the history of wedding gowns from the 1800’s-2009, and let me tell you, these gowns have been preserved beautifully. Each gown has a “story” behind it which is so interesting and most of the stories share Chicago history. I was surprised to see how many gowns throughout the exhibit were colors other than white. One gown was bright orange and another gown was green! One of my favorites was from 1880, made of silk, satin and glass beads…the construction of the gown was so beautiful..even Tim Gunn would be proud! For anyone who loves weddings, this is an exhibit not to be missed. It continues through January 3, 2011, just long enough for all of our brides who become engaged over the winter holidays!
