With all of the recent engagements in February, there is no doubt that wedding planning season is here! It is so important to work with vendors who you trust and the Photographer/DJ relationship is an integral part to any wedding. At Something 2 Dance 2 we have always enjoyed working with Mark Humpa and his team at Cornerstone Photography. As a matter of fact, Mark started out his career in the wedding industry as a DJ Entertainer. We sat down with Mark to learn more about his thriving photography business.
Tell me about yourself and your business: Cornerstone Photography started in the Chicago area in 1994 as the husband and wife team of Mark and Laura Humpa. In 2000 we expanded to bring a few more photographers on staff, and now we have offices in the Chicago, Milwaukee, Kansas City and Houston markets. We have many different styles of photography but our most popular has always been a blend of candid or photojournalistic, and classic imagery.
Where is your business located? Our Chicago area office is located in Algonquin.
What type of event makes up most of your business? About 95% of our business is weddings, with the remainder being family, senior and class portraits.
What other services does your company offer? Besides photography, we also offer video services and photo booth services.
What sets your company apart from other photographers? Some photography studios have a large quantity of photographers, other studios only have one photographer. Cornerstone Photography has 6 core photographers, so we remain smaller or boutique-like, while still giving the client more than one photographer to choose from. Couples typically meet with the owner to discuss their wedding and can always meet their photographer of choice if they like.
Do you have a favorite location in Chicago where you like to shoot? Cuneo Museum and Gardens in Vernon Hills.
What are some 2011 Photography Trends? I believe the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton later this Spring will be a huge influence on many couples. Expect a return to more classical and traditional styles of photography as in past royal weddings.
If you could have only one song on your I-Pod, which song would it be? It would have to be “Cars” by Gary Numan. I guess I am just a product of the 80’s.
