Raise your glass!

It is probably the most nerve wracking moment when asked to be a Best Man or Maid of Honor for a loved one’s wedding…do I have to give a toast? Public speaking is a fear for many, but if you are prepared and put in the time, your toast will be the toast of the town.

  1. Be prepared.  Have a good idea of what you would like to say and be sure to practice aloud or in your head a few times.  Take a deep breath and relax.  Unless you are a seasoned public speaker, “winging” it is not advised.
  2. Share some background information about your relationship.  Personal stories that connect you with the bride and groom will capture your audience.
  3. Be genuine.  Share a fun, yet meaningful story that captures everybody’s attention.
  4. Be creative.  Try sharing a poem, song lyric or meaningful anecdote.
  5. Raise your glass!  Don’t forget to invite guests to raise their glasses and toast the happy couple.
